Founded in 1960 in Guardia Sanframondi, Campania, La Guardiense is a member-owned cooperative bringing together around 1,000 growers from the Sannio Beneventano hills. Its wines express the region’s varied alluvial, volcanic and marl-based terroirs, with a focus on local varieties including Aglianico and Falanghina. Winemaking has been guided by Riccardo Cotarella since 2007, combining traditional knowledge with research, vineyard zonation and precision viticulture. Sustainability is central: La Guardiense was Campania’s first SQNPI-certified winery and uses photovoltaic energy, wastewater treatment, cover crops, night harvesting, native yeasts and no added sulfites. Alongside its wines, the cooperative supports experimentation, grower development and wine tourism rooted in Samnite culture and cuisine.
