Bodega de La Marquesa–Valserrano is a family-owned estate in Villabuena, Rioja Alavesa, led by Juan Pablo de Simón and his children. With more than a century of winemaking history, the estate combines historic underground calados, excavated over 200 years ago, with modern, small-capacity facilities that allow separate vinification by variety, quality, or vineyard. Its vineyards, many 40–50 years old, lie on sunny slopes between the Sierra de Cantabria and the Ebro River, in predominantly clay-calcareous soils. Tempranillo and Viura lead the plantings, alongside Graciano, Mazuelo, Maturana Tinta, and Chardonnay. The winery is committed to recovering Rioja’s historical varieties, including through monovarietal wines, while using photovoltaic energy and pursuing CO₂ reduction and broader sustainability initiatives.
