Vinchio Vaglio

Italy

Founded in 1959 by 19 growers, Vinchio Vaglio is a family growers’ cooperative in Vinchio and Vaglio Serra, at the heart of Piedmont’s UNESCO-listed Monferrato. Around 192 member families farm steep, predominantly calcareous and sandy hillsides, with Barbera at the centre alongside indigenous varieties including Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Freisa and others. The cooperative’s Vigne Vecchie project, begun in 1985, preserves selected vineyards over 50 years old, some now more than 80, and has led to distinctive, age-worthy Barberas. Vinchio Vaglio is Equalitas-certified as a sustainable winery and holds certifications covering environmental management, quality, food safety and traceability. Its approach includes reduced vineyard treatments, renewable energy, lightweight bottles and other packaging initiatives. Wines range from fresh, steel-aged Barberas to structured, wood-aged expressions and Nizza DOCG, reflecting the varied soils and demanding hillside viticulture of Alto Monferrato.
