Ponte da Boga is Ribeira Sacra’s oldest winery, founded in 1898 and located in Castro Caldelas, Galicia, where the Miño and Sil rivers meet. Acquired by the Rivera family in 2006 and still family-run through Hijos de Rivera, it works 33 hectares across distinctive sites along the Miño, Sil and Edo. Its traditional Ribeira Sacra varieties are cultivated through “heroic” viticulture: steep, terraced vineyards are tended entirely by hand, with integrated farming and natural pest control. French oenologist Dominique Roujou leads the winemaking. The estate is also pursuing sustainability initiatives, including electric-vehicle charging, and collaborates with USC and CSIC on the Aromavid project, researching ozone’s effects on climate resilience and wine aroma.
