Podere Il Macchione

Italy

Podere Il Macchione is a family-run estate in Montepulciano’s Caggiole area, focused on Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese). Its hillside vineyards, around 350 metres above sea level, benefit from strong exposure, ventilation and day-night temperature variation. Farming is environmentally conscious, avoiding herbicides and synthetic chemicals in favour of copper and sulphur treatments, green manure, organic fertiliser when needed, deep tillage and natural extracts to support vine health. Grapes are hand-harvested and selected in the vineyard, with yields deliberately kept below consortium limits. In the cellar, native-yeast fermentation follows careful temperature control and extended maceration, while Vino Nobile and Riserva mature in a combination of tonneaux, barriques and larger barrels. Simone and Leonardo express the estate’s patient philosophy as “Tutto il tempo che serve”—all the time it takes.
