Clos du Rouge Gorge

France

Clos du Rouge Gorge is a very small-scale estate in the Côtes Catalanes, near Latour-de-France, owned and run solely by Loire-valley transplant Cyril Fahl. Its north-facing, gneiss-based vineyards are planted with 30- to 100-year-old vines and farmed biodynamically, using manual and horse work, natural composts and cover crops, with no mechanised ploughing. Low yields contribute to naturally concentrated wines. Fermentation takes place in 500-litre wooden barrels with indigenous yeasts, followed by unfiltered bottling, low sulphur and a minimalist, non-interventionist approach.
