Founded in 2004 by Jonathan and Susan Pey, Textbook Vineyards is a Napa Valley producer focused on Cabernet Sauvignon and other wines from diverse California sub-appellations, including Oakville and Yountville. Inspired by European food and wine culture, the Pey family seeks to balance Napa Valley’s power with structure, restraint, and a sense of place. Winemaker Abigail Horstman Estrada draws on international experience and works closely with vineyard partners, sourcing small lots from varied climates and soils. She keeps lots separate in French oak, tasting them throughout the year before integrating selected components. The Oakville Collection is hand-harvested from the Vyborny and Holmes vineyards, whose gravelly alluvial and loam soils are interspersed with large boulders. The resulting wines aim for balanced, complex, varietally and appellation-correct expressions with “richness with restraint.”
