Austria

Sepp and Maria Muster run a family-owned estate in Schlossberg above Leutschach, Southern Styria. Inherited by Sepp from his parents in 2000, the farm is now operated jointly by the couple, with the next generation involved through their son Elias. The vineyards are Demeter-certified biodynamic, with no synthetic inputs, herbicides or pesticides; composts and biodynamic preparations are used instead. Working on rocky Opok soils of limestone and clay silt, the family hand-harvests the grapes. Sepp and Maria make the wines with indigenous yeasts, minimal sulfur and fermentations in old wooden casks. The wines are unfined and unfiltered, expressing a natural, mineral style.
