Anselmo Mendes

Portugal

Anselmo Mendes is a family-owned project founded by the winemaker of the same name in 1998 in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region, centered on Monção and Melgaço. Known as “Mr. Alvarinho,” Mendes focuses on Alvarinho alongside Loureiro and Avesso, with a style that emphasizes dry, elegant, mineral wines, authenticity, and a strong sense of place. His work combines innovation with tradition, including techniques such as barrel fermentation and curtimenta. The estate is rooted in its own vineyards, including Quinta da Torre in Monção, and follows sustainable viticulture through certified integrated production, with measures to reduce chemical inputs, water use, and environmental impact. The project has evolved into a family business and also welcomes visitors for tastings and wine tourism at Quinta da Torre.
