Italy

Pagliarese is a historic Chianti Classico estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, near Siena, revived by the Poggiali family after its acquisition in 1995. The first modern vintage was released in 2015, following extensive replanting with massal selections from the estate’s historic Sangiovese vines. Its vineyards are organically farmed on the south- and southwest-facing slopes of Colle del Montecucco, with varied soils and elevations contributing to distinct expressions. Sangiovese is central, complemented by indigenous Canaiolo and Mammolo, in wines shaped by restrained maceration and aging in medium-sized Slavonian oak. Winemaking takes place in the historic Sant’Emilia farmhouse, where traditional concrete vats and oak are combined with modern technology. The estate also produces Chianti Classico olive oil.
