Founded in 1864, Gratien & Meyer is a historic Saumur house specializing in Crémant de Loire and Saumur Brut. Its hillside site overlooks the Loire, with production—from bottling through cellar ageing and labelling—carried out in converted tuffeau galleries. The house combines modern techniques with traditional-method sparkling-wine production: grapes are hand-harvested, yields are kept low, and only the first pressing is used. Extended lees ageing—18 months for most wines and more than three years for Crémant de Loire—along with the avoidance of malolactic fermentation helps preserve freshness. The wines are made by a team described as passionate about careful workmanship, and the estate offers guided and audioguide cellar visits.
