Family-owned and operated by Bernhard Ecker, Ecker-Eckhof is based in Kirchberg am Wagram in Lower Austria, with a winemaking tradition dating to 1580. Its organically certified vineyards are cultivated without pesticides, fungicides or insecticides, using cover crops, green manure and careful hand-work. The estate focuses on Wagram varieties including Grüner Veltliner, Roter Veltliner and Zweigelt, with Roter Veltliner a particular speciality. Wines emphasise purity, elegance, mineral expression and balanced acidity, ranging from fresh, zippy styles to richer, age-worthy reserves. Yields are controlled through pruning, while cellar work includes cold fermentation and maturation in stainless steel and wood. The family also runs a Heuriger in Mitterstockstall, promoting regional wine culture and food.
