Vincent & Jean-Pierre Charton

France

Family-owned Domaine Vincent & Jean-Pierre Charton has made wine in Mercurey, Burgundy, since 1941. Today, grandson Vincent Charton leads the estate with his father Jean-Pierre; both are involved in winemaking. The domaine is strongly focused on terroir and the distinctive character of Mercurey’s Climats. Vineyard work emphasizes soil life, with regular ploughing, winter mounding, spring de-earthing and manual harvesting and sorting. Yields are limited through pruning, while fermentations use indigenous yeasts. Pinot Noir is destemmed and partly crushed; Chardonnay is whole-bunch pressed and vinified in oak. Wines mature for 8–10 months in barrel and are bottled at the estate.
