Scheiblhofer

Austria

Family-owned Weingut Scheiblhofer has been based in Andau, Burgenland, since Johann Scheiblhofer founded it in 1983. His son Erich took over in 2000 and leads the winemaking. The estate farms vineyards in Andau and other top Burgenland locations, where abundant sunshine, high temperatures and mineral gravelly soils produce ripe, full-bodied wines, including the red wine Big John. Sustainability is central to the operation: it holds the Leitbetriebe Austria certificate, uses sustainable cultivation methods and operates an energy-self-sufficient photovoltaic system, alongside electric vehicles. Erich is also a member of Club Batonnage, a group of Austrian winemakers known for a relaxed, unconventional approach to wine.
