Etienne Brana

Brana is a long-established Basque family house founded in 1897, with four generations active in wine and spirits. Based in Irouléguy in the Sud-Ouest, the domaine helped revive the appellation from 1984, when Jean Brana restored abandoned mountain terraces and played a key role in the renewal of local white wine. The vineyards lie largely on steep terraced slopes around Ispoure, Bussunaritz and Lecumberry, with soils including red sandstone, limestone, argillite and clay-limestone. Brana also vinifies Herri Mina, a small mountain vineyard in Ispoure owned by Jean-Claude Berrouet and farmed organically for several years. The estate emphasizes biodiversity, with extensive bird habitat and diverse plant life, and the vineyard is now farmed organically.
