Chateau Henri Bonnaud

France

Château Henri Bonnaud is a family-run estate in Le Tholonet, at the foot of Sainte-Victoire near Aix-en-Provence, led by owner and winemaker Stéphane Spitzglous. The domaine farms roughly 30 hectares, including 14 hectares in the rare, historic Palette AOC, with additional vineyards in Côtes de Provence and Sainte-Victoire. Its limestone-scree soils, known as Langesse, underpin wines made from Mediterranean varieties including Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Rolle and Clairette. Organic farming began in 2010, with bio certification since 2013; the estate avoids chemical fertilizers and weedkillers and uses barley and vetches for natural soil fertility. Reds emphasize concentration and silky tannins, while north-facing white-vine parcels help preserve freshness. Stéphane also pursues experimental projects, including six-month underwater aging in the Mediterranean.
