Altos de Rioja

Spain

Altos de Rioja is a family-run boutique winery established in 2006 in Rioja Alavesa, with facilities in Elvillar since 2014. Founded by three experienced wine professionals—Roberto San Ildefonso, Bienvenido Muñoz and Bordeaux winemaker Jean Marc Sauboua—it combines traditional vineyard methods with contemporary winemaking. The estate works with high-altitude, calcareous vineyards around Laguardia, Elvillar and Kripan, selecting parcels and respecting biodiversity to express their individual character. Its wines aim for a modern yet authentic Rioja style, marked by freshness, elegance, precision and personality. Ageing is primarily in French oak, complemented by American oak and, for some wines, terracotta amphorae. The winery emphasizes meticulous work, sustainability and respect for the inherited environment.
