La Serena

Italy

La Serena is a family-run estate in Montalcino, owned by the Mantengoli family since the 1930s and revived in 1988 by brothers Andrea and Marcello Mantengoli. Today it remains in family hands, with Andrea at the center of vineyard and cellar work. The estate is rooted in organic farming and a minimal-intervention philosophy, emphasizing soil health, biodiversity, cover crops, pollinator support, and a balanced relationship between grower and territory. Sustainability extends to the cellar, which was designed by Marcello according to bio-architecture principles and incorporates natural materials, geothermal temperature control, and solar energy. In the winery, Andrea works with consultant enologist Paolo Caciorgna, and the wines are aged in large oak casks rather than barriques, reflecting a traditional Montalcino approach.
