Clos de la Frelonnerie

France

Clos de la Frelonnerie is a historic monopole in Montlouis-sur-Loire, Loire Valley, owned and run by three vignerons: Stéphane Bodet, Alice Chidaine, and Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal. Planted to old-vine Chenin Blanc on tuffeau and clay-silica soils rich in marine fossils, the vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, with horse-drawn plowing, cover crops, and home-made compost. Fruit is hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged for two years in demi-muids. Ancient stone walls, low-intervention cellar work, and the direct involvement of the three owners give the estate a distinctly artisanal character.
