Château de Cayx

France

Château de Cayx is a historic estate in Luzech, in the Cahors valley of southwest France, owned by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and acquired with the late Prince Henrik in 1974. Its south-facing, argilo-calcaire hillside vineyards produce predominantly Malbec-based AOP Cahors reds, alongside rosé and white wines under the PDO Cahors and PGI Côtes du Lot designations. Vineyard work includes green harvesting and manual leaf removal, while selected wines are aged in new oak. The estate holds France’s High Environmental Value certification. Its royal ownership and long association with the Danish royal family give the domaine a distinctive identity, while its wines are noted for elegance and ageing potential.
