Producer

Alvaro & Maria Castro

Portugal

Family-run since its inheritance in 1980, Alvaro and Maria Castro’s estate encompasses the historic Quinta da Pellada, Quinta de Saes and Quinta de Outeiro vineyards in the Dão’s Serra da Estrela sub-region. Planted on granite soils at around 500–550 metres, the vineyards include vines up to 65 years old. Certified organic and cultivated without chemicals, the estate focuses on low-intervention, terroir-driven red and white wines made from traditional Dão varieties. Self-trained winemaker Álvaro and his daughter Maria, who has a biotechnology background, share responsibility for the wines.
