Adega O Cabalin

Adega O Cabalín is a family project in Valdeorras, Galicia, led by Teresa López and Luis Peique with their friend Hugh McCartan. Based in the historic area of O Cabalín, where Teresa was born, the team is restoring abandoned and semi-abandoned vineyards, including old vines on steep, south-facing slopes at 560–600 metres, with shallow slate soils. They work organically and sustainably, using natural pest and disease management, polyculture, and minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. Spontaneous fermentation and traditional foot-treading support wines intended to express the landscape. The project’s vineyards are rich in surrounding biodiversity, and its wines have received recognition from critics including JancisRobinson.com, The Wine Advocate, and Decanter.
