Porta del Vento

Italy

Founded in 2005, Porta del Vento is an estate in Camporeale, Sicily, where former pharmacist Marco Sferlazzo is owner and winemaker. Its 18 hectares lie at 600 metres in the Alcamo and Monreale DOCs, on steep, windy, sandy soils over sandstone. Many vines are around 50 years old, with native varieties including ancient Catarratto trained in the traditional alberello system. Farming is 100% certified organic and biodynamic, with manual harvesting and a focus on biodiversity. Following its “Coltivare Vino” philosophy, the winery uses native yeasts, cement vats and large oak barrels to make natural, low-intervention, unfiltered wines. Porta del Vento is also part of Renaissance Italia, a group of natural wine producers.
