Meinklang

Austria

Meinklang is a family-run, Demeter-certified biodynamic mixed farm in Burgenland’s Seewinkel, within the Neusiedlersee National Park near the Hungarian border. Owned and operated by the Michlits family, with Angela Michlits as principal winemaker, the estate treats the farm as a self-sufficient living organism, integrating vineyards with cattle, other livestock, grains, orchards and vegetables. Farming focuses on biodiversity and soil health through self-produced compost, cover crops, eco-islands, wild herbs and animal-based fertility. In the cellar, Meinklang works with spontaneous fermentation, natural malolactic conversion, no fining agents, and very little or no sulfur, using wood, stainless steel and concrete, with gravity flow to limit handling. The estate also farms on Somló in Hungary, where volcanic soils support traditional varieties such as Hárslevelű and Juhfark.
