Bodegas Montecillo

Spain

Bodegas Montecillo is a historic Rioja producer founded by the Navajas family in Fuenmayor and now owned by Osborne. With more than 150 years of experience, it combines respect for vineyard character with precise, coherent winemaking and a commitment to sustainability. Tempranillo comes from old, dry-farmed, bush-trained vines on sandy, pebbly soils, with low yields and hand-picking; Graciano is sourced from Rioja Oriental. The winery works closely with local growers and selects fruit from numerous plots, while gravity-fed facilities, modern monitoring and carefully managed oak aging support its traditional approach. Its wines are described as honest and authentic expressions of Rioja, ranging from classic, structured Reservas to powerful, age-worthy wines made only in exceptional vintages. Underground cellars hold historic bottles dating back to 1926, and winemaker Mercedes García Rupérez leads the current team.
