Pieri

Italy

Pieri is a small family-run estate in Piancornello, in southern Montalcino, founded in 1991 by Agostina Pieri and now managed with her sons Jacopo and Francesco Monaci. Jacopo oversees the vineyards, while Francesco manages the cellar and production. The south- to southwest-facing vineyards are divided into five parcels, with Galestro, lime-rich clay and alluvial, mineral soils; grapes are kept separate to express each site and label. Vineyard work is meticulous, including hand leaf-picking, selective green harvesting and low yields, although the estate is not organically or biodynamically certified. Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino and Sant’Antimo are made with a balance of tradition, modern technology, terroir and drinkability. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by maturation in French barrels and larger oak botti, with careful recent use of new oak. The wines aim for freshness, harmony, finesse and a recognisable personal style.
