Chalone Vineyard is a historic Monterey County property established in 1919 and located in the remote Chalone AVA, high in the Gavilan Mountain range above the Salinas Valley. Its estate vineyards sit on well-drained volcanic limestone soils in a dry, low-yielding environment. The winery focuses on estate-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with limited Pinot Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Syrah, and handles growing, harvesting, fermentation, and bottling on-site. A pioneering California Chardonnay producer, Chalone gained international recognition with a third-place finish at the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Today it is owned and operated by Foley Family Wines, Inc.
