Montesecondo is a family-owned estate in San Casciano in Chianti Classico, run by Silvio Messana, who took over the property in the 1990s and farms it biodynamically. The wines come from two estate vineyards with contrasting soils and elevations: a lower clay and marl site that gives warmer, more textured wines, and a higher limestone-rich site that yields fresher, more vibrant wines with marked acidity. Certified organic and farmed biodynamically since 2003, Montesecondo works with native fermentations, very low sulphur, and a low-intervention approach focused on transparency and site expression. Messana is especially noted for distinctive, characterful interpretations of Sangiovese and for wines that balance spontaneity with classical Chianti character.
