Chateau Marjolet

France

Château de Marjolet is a fifth-generation, independently operated Pontaud family estate in the southern Rhône, with vineyards in Gaujac and Laudun. The family has farmed in Gaujac since the 13th century; Bernard Pontaud established the estate’s own winery in 1971 after converting the farm entirely to vines. Today, siblings Laurent and Sophie Pontaud run the 80-hectare estate. Vineyard management is reasoned and respectful of nature, with High Environmental Value certification. The approximately 40-year-old vines include Grenache Noir, Syrah and Cinsault for red and rosé wines, and Roussanne and Viognier for whites. The estate produces a broad range of Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages wines described as simple, generous and expressive of their terroir.
