Maastricht is a family-owned estate in Durbanville, just outside Cape Town, founded by Johannes Louw in 1982 and now run by his son Thys and his wife Melanie. Located around 10km from the ocean, its vineyards benefit from cooling maritime breezes, clay-rich Tygerberg soils and conditions that help preserve natural acidity. The Louw family and their long-established team manage the vineyards, selecting small handcrafted parcels for their own wines. The estate emphasizes respect for the land and sustainable farming, without stated formal certification. Its wines focus on the distinctive character of Durbanville, particularly fruit-driven white wines and balanced reds, with Sauvignon Blanc a major focus alongside Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and other varieties.
