Domaine Saint Gayan

France

Domaine Saint Gayan is a family-owned estate in Gigondas, in the Southern Rhône, with roots dating to 1709 and twelve generations of winemaking. Jean-Pierre and Martine Meffre are passing operations to Julie Meffre and Christian Yves Carré de Lusanay. The domaine focuses on Grenache, including very old vines, grown on clay-limestone soils in a hot, dry climate, with holdings also in Rasteau, Sablet, Plan de Dieu and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Farming is sustainable and HVE-certified from the 2020 harvest; the estate avoids chemical herbicides, favors traditional plowing and limits copper use. Winemaking combines modern reception equipment with traditional methods, including manual harvesting, whole-cluster fermentation, long underground-cellar aging, sandstone jars, amphorae and large or neutral oak vessels. The wines are generally generous, structured and terroir-driven, with particular expertise in Grenache-led reds as well as whites and rosés.
