Domaine Joseph Scharsch

France

Domaine Joseph Scharsch is a strictly family-run Alsace estate in Wolxheim, in the Couronne d’Or vineyards southwest of Strasbourg, operated by eight generations of the Scharsch family since 1755. Its vineyards are organically certified since 2009 and farmed biodynamically since 2021, without herbicides, synthetic fertilizers or chemical treatments; weeds are managed manually and disease control uses natural products. Nicolas Scharsch is the current winemaker, following Joseph Scharsch, who worked here from 1971 until 2011. The estate’s wines aim to express the richness of their terroirs with purity and balance, with Riesling—particularly from the Grand Cru Altenberg—at the heart of its identity. A 2019 cellar supports long fermentations with indigenous yeasts.
