Domaine Alain Mathias

France

Founded in 1982 by Alain Mathias, this family-run Burgundy domaine is now managed by Bastien and Carole Mathias. Its certified-organic vineyards span Épineuil, Tonnerre and Chablis, producing Chardonnay-based whites and Pinot Noir reds. The family prioritizes soil life, biodiversity and careful vineyard work, including hand-harvesting, limited mechanical harvesting and non-synthetic treatments. Wines are made in a natural cellar excavated from an old quarry, using gravity transfers, minimal sulfites and a tasting-led, low-intervention approach. Traditional vessels are complemented by amphorae, stoneware and terracotta eggs, alongside used barrels, with extended lees aging to express each terroir and vintage.
