Delaforce

Portugal

Delaforce is a historic Port house in Portugal’s Douro region, founded in 1868 by George Henry Delaforce and now owned by Real Companhia Velha. Long associated with the Douro and Vila Nova de Gaia, it is known for strong blending and ageing expertise, especially in aged Tawny Ports, and was an early promoter of this style among British shippers. Grapes come from A-classified sites in the Rio Torto and Roncão valleys, as well as premium estates including Aciprestes and Cidrô. Traditional methods remain important, with foot treading in granite lagares for the most prestigious wines and ageing in Gaia lodges. The style is often described as elegant, pure and relatively delicate, particularly in its Vintage Ports. No sustainability certifications or specific farming practices are disclosed.
