Montsecano is a boutique Franco-Chilean estate in Aconcagua, run by four friends and led by Alsatian winemaker André Ostertag. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with horse ploughing, hand hoeing, biodynamic composts and moderate irrigation. In the cellar, the approach is firmly low-intervention: indigenous yeast fermentations, no fining or filtration, élevage in concrete vats, and only a homeopathic dose of volcanic sulphur at bottling. The Refugio single-vineyard site in Casablanca Valley is noted for granitic soils and 100% biodynamic farming.
