Domaine de la Commanderie

France

Domaine de la Commanderie is a family-run estate in the Loire Valley's Chinon AOC, founded by Philippe Pain in 1982 and now operated together with his daughters Clothilde and Honorine. They farm about 50 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the Chinon hills, with a focus on environmentally respectful viticulture. Since 2019, the entire estate has been in conversion to organic farming, and their 100% Cabernet Franc wines are marketed as organic, though formal certification is pending. Winemaking is shared among the family, aiming to produce convivial, accessible wines—primarily light and fruity for early enjoyment, alongside some exceptional cuvées aged in barrel. The domaine emphasizes tradition, respect for the environment, and adapting to climate change, while fostering a warm, welcoming atmosphere at their cellar.
