Château Fortia

France

Château Fortia is a historic estate in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley, with roots dating back to the 17th century. It is closely tied to Baron Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié, former owner and a founding figure of the French AOC system and the INAO. The domaine works exclusively with fruit from its own vineyards, on the galets roulés soils typical of the appellation, and is part of Vignerons Indépendants de France. Farming is described as sustainable and agroecological, with mechanical soil work, no herbicides or insecticides, pheromone pest control, hedges, biodiversity measures, and sheep grazing in the vines. Winemaking is traditional and respectful, with manual harvesting, parcel-based picking decisions, long macerations for reds, direct pressing for whites, and élevage in foudres or tanks to preserve each wine’s character.
