Baron Edmond is produced by the Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons partnership and presented as a flagship South African Bordeaux-style red blend. Its history reaches back to Baron Edmond de Rothschild, who founded Carmel Winery in 1882 after acquiring land and investing in its development. Rothschild family involvement continued until 1957, after which operations were transferred to the cooperative Société Coopérative Vigneronne des Grandes Caves. Early winemaking expertise came from Bordeaux viticulturist Gérard Ermens and Professor Gayon. No specific sustainability certifications are noted.
