Vallena is a family-owned Valpolicella estate in the hills north of Verona, run by the Tomezzoli family and revived by Gianfranco Tomezzoli in the 1960s. Its oldest vines date to 1968, and the vineyards focus on traditional local varieties including Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara. The estate produces Valpolicella, Ripasso, and Amarone, with a strong emphasis on terroir-driven wines. Its distinctive Costolo cru is a small parcel in a collapsed sinkhole, with rocky soils and south-westerly exposure. The single-vineyard Amarone “Il Costolo” is made through careful grape selection and controlled appassimento to express the site’s particular geological character.
