Stagård

Austria

Lesehof Stagård is a family-run estate in Krems, Kremstal, where wine has been made continuously since 1786 in a historic Lesehof dating to 1424. Urban T. Stagård took over in 2008 as the tenth generation, continuing a long family tradition that began with his ancestors and the Swedish Stagård name. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2005 and biodynamically according to Rudolf Steiner’s methods; the wines have been Demeter-certified since 2021. Synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers are excluded, with biodiversity and vine vitality prioritized. Riesling and Grüner Veltliner are central, particularly expressive single-vineyard wines from steep, terraced sites around Stein and Krems. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, minimal intervention, lees aging, and occasional use of older wood support wines focused on origin, minerality, and longevity.
