Poggiotondo

Italy

Poggiotondo is a family-run estate in Tuscany’s Chianti region, between Florence and Pisa, owned by the Antonini family since 1968. Certified organic since 2014, it farms without synthetic chemicals, focusing on living soils, biodiversity, vine health, and long-term vineyard vitality. Alberto and Alessandra Antonini operate the estate, with Carlo Alberto Antonini taking a hands-on role in the vineyards and winemaking. The marine-origin soils, marked by limestone fossils and ranging from sandy to silty clay-limestone, contribute energy and tension to the wines. Winemaking is natural and terroir-driven, using concrete fermentation tanks and large, untoasted oak casks, without commercial yeasts, nutrients, or enzymes; only hot water and some sulphur are used. The approach is traditional, non-invasive, and focused on expressing the Tuscan landscape.
