La Porte Saint-Jean is a small Saumur estate in Montreuil-Bellay, owned and run by Sylvain Dittière, who also makes the wines. Son-in-law of Charlie and Françoise Foucault, Dittière developed his experience through apprenticeships with Thierry Germain, Gérard Gauby, Marc Tempé and the Foucault brothers at Clos Rougeard. The estate works old Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc vines, producing two whites and two Saumur-Champigny reds. The reds are aged for 18–24 months in a historic limestone cellar. No organic, biodynamic or other sustainability certifications are mentioned.
