La Contrada di Sorano

Italy

La Contrada di Sorano is a tiny, family-run Barolo estate in Serralunga d’Alba, owned and operated by Paolo and Cristina Baudana. Working vineyards in the Sorano and San Rocco areas, as well as Nebbiolo in Diano d’Alba, they cultivate Barbera, Dolcetto, Favorita and Nebbiolo, including three Nebbiolo sub-varieties used for Barolo. Their vines grow on clay marl, siliceous sand and limestone, with some plantings dating to the early 1970s. Paolo and Cristina emphasize manual work, close observation and patience, seeking depth, complexity and precision while respecting each vintage and what the grapes express rather than following rigid enological dogma. Their wines are made in a minimal-intervention style, with low sulphur and old oak.
