Château Les Grands Chênes

France

Château Les Grands Chênes is a Cru Bourgeois estate in Bordeaux’s Médoc, owned by Bernard Magrez since 1998 and part of his wider portfolio. The vineyard is planted mainly to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small amount of Cabernet Franc, on gravel, clay and limestone soils, with vines averaging 30–40 years old. The estate is described as farmed with respect for the environment, using grass cover, leaf thinning, Bordeaux pruning and other manual vineyard work; notes mention both organic certification and HVE certification. Winemaking is overseen by Michel Rolland, with whole-berry fermentation in wood vats and stainless steel, followed by 16–18 months of aging in French oak, partly new.
