Poggio Maiolo is a small family-run farm and winery in Montone, in Umbria’s Alta Valle del Carpina. Acquired by the Fortunati-Cook family in 2003 and operated by sisters Valeria and Alessia, the estate combines vineyards with olive trees, truffle grounds, and woodland. Its vines are worked and harvested by hand, with grapes carefully selected and production intentionally kept low. The estate says it has always farmed organically and is pursuing certification; herbicides and insecticides are banned, while cover crops, green manure, and organic fertilization are used. In the cellar, sulfites are minimized, no clarifying agents are used, and wines receive only coarse filtration. The range includes Friulano and Chardonnay, alongside Syrah and Pinot Noir.
