Pico Maccario

Italy

Founded in 1997 by brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario, Pico Maccario is a family-run estate based in Mombaruzzo, Piedmont. Its Monferrato vineyards include substantial plantings of Barbera alongside Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Cortese, and Moscato d’Asti, while in the Langhe it cultivates Nebbiolo in Neive, Serralunga d’Alba, and Barolo, including the historic Cannubi cru. The clayey, medium-textured soils of Monferrato yield varied, balanced wines with a modern, versatile style; the older, fine-textured soils of Langa contribute elegance and long evolution. Winemaking is overseen by Giovanni Chiarle, with maturation in stainless steel, large barrels, tonneaux, or barriques according to the wine, while preserving fruit character. The estate combines innovation and vineyard research with distinctive traditions, including rose plants and colorful pencil posts marking the vineyards.
