Italy

Grattamacco is a pioneering Bolgheri estate in Tuscany, founded in 1977 and among the first wineries to believe in the area’s higher hillside sites. Now owned by the Tipa Bertarelli family as part of Colle Massari, it remains focused on organic, sustainable farming, certified by Eco-Control. The vineyards lie on elevated slopes with white clay, sandstone and calcareous flysch soils, a setting long associated here with freshness, finesse and strong terroir character. Chief winemaker Luca Marrone follows a low-intervention, hand-crafted approach, using spontaneous fermentations in wooden vats, manual punch-downs and extended aging in oak to preserve authentic site expression. Grattamacco is also noted as an early champion of Bolgheri Rosso, Vermentino and hillside Sangiovese.
