Famiglia Statella is a family-run artisanal winery on Mount Etna’s northern slopes, founded in 2016 by Calogero and Rita Statella. Their organically certified vineyards lie in high-altitude contrade including Pettinociarelle, Pignatuni and Tartaraci, between Castiglione di Sicilia, Randazzo and Bronte. Black volcanic sands, lava stones and marked temperature variations shape wines with savoury, distinctive character. The family prioritises artisanal viticulture, describing themselves as vine-growers before wine producers, and seeks to express each microzone’s identity through organic, environmentally sensitive methods. Their Etna DOC range includes Bianco, Rosato, Rosso and cru wines. Pignatuni includes some pre-phylloxera bush vines on ancient lava, while Pettinociarelle— their first vineyard— is suited to structured reds. They also produce a small quantity of unfiltered extra virgin olive oil from high-altitude, partly centuries-old olive trees.
