Clos Saint-Jean in the Rhône Valley refers here to the historic Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate of the Maurel family, founded in 1905 and now carried on by a new generation. Its vineyards span a wide range of parcels and soils, from galets roulés and quartzite gravels to sand, clay, and limestone, with many old vines contributing finesse, structure, and aromatic complexity. The domaine emphasizes careful parcel selection and separate vinification to preserve each site’s identity, followed by meticulous blending. The wines are rooted in the family’s long continuity, rigor, and attentive vineyard work, with a focus on classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and white grapes such as Bourboulenc, Roussanne, and Clairette.
