Portal da Estrela is a family-owned estate in Portugal’s Douro river valley, working low-yielding old vines on slate-covered hillsides with granite soils, high altitude and Atlantic influence. Winemaker Tiago Macena vinifies local Dão varieties separately before blending and bottling from cement tanks. Natural cellar cooling and gravity-fed winemaking help reduce energy use and mechanical handling, reflecting a thoughtful, low-intervention approach. The estate is not certified organic.
